Between 5 PM and 8:30 AM and on weekends and holidays, the library doors are electronically locked. The MRRI building doors are locked at all times. Affiliates of College of Charleston Grice Marine Lab, NOAA NCCOS Hollings Marine Laboratory/NIST Charleston can gain access after hours using their magnetic access cards. Hold the magnetic card over the sensor and enter once the door is unlocked. Doors will automatically lock again shortly.
To leave the Marine Resources Library when the doors are locked, push the green button to the left of the doors. This should work even in the event of a power outage.
In the event of an emergency and if the main exit is inaccessible, exit the building using the emergency exit by the MRL conference room at the back of the library. Push the bar on the door to open it. This door will always automatically lock when it closes and reentry is not possible. This door should never be propped open.
