If you would like to access our electronic resources from a location off the College of Charleston Campus, simply click the appropriate link on the web page. If you are off-campus, you will be prompted for your logon name and password in order to show you are a member of the College of Charleston/Marine Resources Library community.
Please note that it is very important to access an e-journal, e-book, or database by choosing links on the library website rather than locating the resource in a general web search. We incorporate the authentication mechanism into the URLs to ensure you can get access to what we pay for.
How do I find out my logon name and password?
CofC Students, faculty, and staff including researchers with adjunct/courtesy faculty appointments: Your username and password are your CofC/MyPortal credentials.
SCDNR partners without adjunct/courtesy faculty appointments: The current user name and password are located on The Landing (SCDNR SharePoint) on the MRD-MRRI page under General Operations in a document linked as “Marine Resources Library (subscriptions access).” To access SharePoint and view this document, please use your SCDNR SharePoint credentials.
How do I report problems?
- Problems with College of Charleston/MyPortal username and password:
Contact College of Charleston Information Technology Service Desk (https://help.charleston.edu/). The libraries do not manage these credentials
- Problems with SCDNR username and password (on The Landing):
Contact Geoff Timms, Librarian for Marine Resources or contact the Addlestone Library Access and Instruction Desk (https://libanswers.charleston.edu/)
- Resolving other access or process issues with library resources or services after successfully authenticating with College of Charleston credentials:
Contact Geoff Timms, Librarian for Marine Resources or contact the Addlestone Library Access and Instruction Desk (https://libanswers.charleston.edu/).
What if I use Google Scholar?
If you use Google Scholar for your research, you can improve your off-campus experience by adjusting the Library Links under Settings in Google Scholar to include College of Charleston Libraries. This will add a Find At CofC link after many of the results, which will assist you with getting authenticated access.
